The farm "Tenuta Torre Raone" is located in Abruzzo, on the sunny hills of Loreto Aprutino (PE) at 350 meters above sea level, on the borders of the National Park Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga in the neighborhood of the Natural Oasis Lake of Penne. The company was taken over in 1997 by two friends, not yet forty, the nearby village Tollo, Luciano Di Tizio and Antonio D'Emilio, the first and the second farmer agronomist. The Estate , with an area of 35 hectares, under the Organic Farming Certified ICEA. It has grown to 30 hectares of vineyards and 3 hectares of olive groves on land particularly suited and able to enhance the organoleptic characteristics of the Montepulciano d'Abruzzo. Cultivation techniques, research aimed at continuous quality improvement, allow the achievement of yields well below the limits set by the product. At the center of the estate stands a fortress that dominates the surrounding area, called Torre Raone, in honor of Raone from Poliano who ordered its construction in the eleventh century. At that time Loreto Aprutino was dominated by the Normans, in fact Raone from Poliano was one of the descendants of Tancredi Duke of Normandy, owner of a small fiefdom in Hauteville, on the English Channel. The Normans arrived in Italy to help the city of the peninsula to rid by the Byzantines. The winery was built in 2006, in which all the grapes are processed and turned into wine (Organic), with a current production of more or less 100,000 bottles sold in Italy and abroad.
In the estate Torre Raone methods and traditions come together with modern winemaking techniques, to create the kind of high quality wines. Vineyards and olive groves of the estate are the crossroads to the airflow coming from the west, where the sun sets behind the unmistakable silhouette of the Gran Sasso of Italy (Sleeping Beauty by Gabriele D'Annunzio), from the south-east on declines Maiella and from the northeast to the Adriatic Sea that washes the shores of Abruzzo. In this territory very rich of history as it testifies the Swabian tower still present on the estate, it is unthinkable not to aim at the sublime. These assumptions, which are essential for producing high-quality wine, combined with the healthy vocation and the vast experience of the conductors of the estate, are a guarantee of a production that aims to transfer to fans all the strength, character, tastes and sensations of products the nature of this land: sincere and authentic. The farming methods are not invasive, focused on the need to enhance the natural characteristics of the native vineyards and olive trees. This is the main objective of the company, enhance the local products, which often widespread production techniques focused on quantity rather than quality have not done justice. Another reflection of the basic principles that regulate the activity of the cellar in Tenuta Torre Raone is, for example, the very limited use of barriques. This just to avoid stifling the elegant and delicate aromas and flavors characteristic of natural wine, with aggressive olfactory and taste sensations arising from different types of wood. As commercially attractive, given the success of the barrels in recent years, this courageous decision aims to offer its customers a unique product, not approved and unlike any other.
